Recognising its advanced approach to project management, the Kai Tak Sports Park project has been awarded the Grand Award – Project Category at the “Hong Kong openBIM/openGIS Award 2022 Ceremony” organised by Hong Kong Alliance of Built Asset & Environment Information Management Associations (HKABAEIMA).

Mr Kenneth Ma, Director (Design and Build) of Kai Tak Sports Park Limited, expressed his delight during the presentation ceremony: “There is no playbook for us to deal with project with this scale and complexity – coordinating a team of 3,000 people, 100 companies across the world, 60,000 drawings. I am proud that we have been standing in unity with our client, Home Affairs Bureau and stakeholders, to help the project set and soar.”

“To do a good job, an artisan needs the best tools”

Mr Ma quoted a proverb “To do a good job, an artisan needs the best tools” to illustrate the determination of digital implementation.  In the Kai Tak Sports Park project, project team has been utilising openBIM and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), to secure certainty and control over the project.  He added, “With openBIM at early stage, we can integrate and coordinate innovative technologies including VDC (BIM), Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) / Modular Integrated Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MiMEP), laser scanning and photogrammetry on a Common Data Environment (CDE) platform, so as to reduce risks, accelerate programme and foster communication amongst different parties on various fronts.”
