Ahead of TheStadiumBusiness ASIA 2023, we caught up with Michael Hosking, Managing Director of Southeast Asia’s leading live music promoter, Midas Promotions

Midas Promotions was founded by Hosking in Bahrain in 1978 and has grown to become one of the leading international events companies in Asia and the Middle East. The company has promoted acts such as Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Sir Elton John.

On the sporting front, Midas Promotions has worked on events such as the Singapore Rugby Sevens. The company also promotes theatre-based productions and consults on all aspects of the international live entertainment market.

TheStadiumBusiness: What are the key current challenges and opportunities in the events marketplace?

Michael Hosking: “Right now the main challenge is securing venues in every Asian city. Post-COVID a whole slew of postponed events have been rescheduled, coinciding with other tours and events planned for this period already.”

TSB: What are the most interesting trends you are witnessing in the events sector?

MH: “The increase in fans watching live events – both music and sports. It seems the pent-up energy to see live events during COVID has extended and people are spending more than ever on tickets.”

TSB: What’s on the roadmap for Midas Promotions over the next six to 12 months?

MH: “We’ve just finished a David Foster & Friends tour, and have dates with MLTR and Westlife coming up, with shows with various bands scheduled for Vietnam and China, among others, in the coming six months – all of which are exciting.”

TSB: What are you most looking forward to about TheStadiumBusiness ASIA?

MH: “Comparing notes with allies and competitors and being reminded that we all face the same problems, and discussing solutions for the ever-changing road map that is Asia touring. And of course, getting updates on new venues and ticketing companies coming online.”
